Using your mobile camera with your desktop

Using your mobile camera with your desktop

Problem Statement: Sometimes you need a webcam for Skype, Google Hangout or other chat services and don’t have one around.

The Solution: DroidCam lets you use your Android device as a webcam and/or mic on Windows via USB or WiFi. The setup process is pretty simple, just follow the below steps.

Note: For this to work, make sure Windows (including drivers) are up-to-date.

Install DroidCam

The very first step is to install the required application on your devices.

On Mobile

On Desktop

Download “DroidCam” from official source.
  • Install the Client (use default settings or customize as per your requirement)

Final Step

  1. Using WiFi
    1. Connect your Desktop and Mobile to the same WiFi network.
    2. Open the DroidCam Application on your Mobile phone. Note the IP address and port number displayed on the screen (In my case it is, 172.70.10.58 and 4747).
    1. On your Desktop, Go to Start -> and open the DroidCam Client.
    2. Enter the IP address and port number noted from the mobile phone application.
    3. Click “Start”.

Settings for Skype and Zoom

    1. Open Skype Settings
    2. Go to Audio & Video.
    3. Change the Camera Source to “DroidCam Source”
  1. Zoom Settings
